Dr. Michael Chen is an Adjunct Professor of the Department of Management and Division of Public Policy; and an Advisor of the Thompson Center for Business Case Studies at HKUST.
Dr. Chen’s current roles include serving as: Senior Advisor of the Case Center at Peking University’s Guanghua School of Management; Independent Non-Executive Director, Chairman of Remuneration Committee and Member of Audit and Nomination Committees of Value Partners Group; Investment Committee Member of the Croucher Foundation; Emeritus Member of the Harvard Business School Asia-Pacific Advisory Board; and Member of the Global Advisory and Editorial Boards of the Global Jesuit Case Series.
His previous experiences included leadership positions as Research Scholar of the Bank Indonesia Institute; Executive Director of Harvard Business School’s Asia-Pacific Research Center; Head of Risk Management at the Private Sector Operations Department of the Asian Development Bank; Executive Director of Private Banking at Union Bank of Switzerland; Head of International Private Banking at Standard Chartered Bank; Regional Director of Private Banking of the NatWest Bank Group; Investment Bank Risk Manager, Head of Manufacturing Division and Chief Economist at Citibank - Hong Kong; and Divisional Planning Officer and Chief of Staff of Citibank’s Head of the Global Investment Management Group in New York.
He received his PhD in Economics at Cornell, MBA at Harvard, and BA from the University of California in Berkeley.
