MPP Student Advisory Program
Fostering connection, mentorship, and personal growth
At HKUST’s Division of Public Policy, we recognize that meaningful education is built not only on rigorous coursework, but also on strong relationships and thoughtful guidance. That’s why we created the MPP Student Advisory Program—a signature initiative launched in 2021 to strengthen the bond between faculty and students through mentorship, conversation, and community-building.
Each Year 1 student is matched with a faculty advisor and placed into a small advisory group, creating space for informal dialogue, personalized support, and shared reflection. Year 2 students continue this journey with their Policy Analysis Exercise (PAE) advisor, ensuring continuity and deeper engagement as they take on their capstone projects.
Advisory groups meet at least once per term, often over casual meals or relaxed gatherings that encourage open conversation and connection. These interactions help students navigate academic challenges, explore career goals, and build lasting relationships with faculty and peers. Advisors play a key role in understanding students’ progress and offering timely, relevant guidance throughout the program.
The MPP Student Advisory Program reflects our commitment to holistic education. It’s not just about academic performance—it’s about creating a supportive, inclusive environment where students feel seen, heard, and empowered to grow.
