Call for Applications : PhD in Public Policy for the 2023/24 Fall Intake

The Division of Public Policy at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology now invites applications to PhD positions (4 positions) for the doctoral degree Doctor of Philosophy in Public Policy that is fully funded by the faculty research grants. 

 

Aside from the general admission requirements set by the University, we particularly welcome applicants keen to puruse high-quality research in the following research areas, with the specific requirement:


PhD Position No. 1: Under Prof Alex Jingwei HE's Funding and Supervision 

 

Focus on the

Research Areas

Requirement
  •  Social policy and reforms
  • Policy innovation and entrepreneurship, and
  • Ageing-related policy issues.

Being trained in at least one of the following disciplines:

 

  • Public policy and administration,
  • Social security and social policy, and
  • Political science.

 

PhD Position No. 2: Under Prof Julien DE TROULLIOUD DE LANVERSIN's Funding and Supervision 

 

Focus on the

Research Areas

Applicants'

Requirement
  •  Geopolitics
  • Technology Policy
  • Energy Policy
  • Nuclear Policy

Being trained in at least one of the following disciplines:

 

  • International relations, international sescurity Or
  • Engineering, Science, Physics, Mathematics
  • With good quantitative skills

 

PhD Position No. 3: Under Prof Xiaofan ZHAO's Funding and Supervision 

 

Focus on the

Research Areas

Applicants'

Requirement
  •  Climate change, energy and environmental policy, with a particular focus on China
  • Business compliance with environmental policy
  • Urban resilience and climate adaptation
  • Green finance

Being trained in at least one of the following disciplines:

 

  • Public policy, particularly policy implementation
  • Environmental policy and governance
  • Political economy of China
  • Experience in conducting field research is a plus.

 

PhD Position No. 4: Under Prof Kira MATUS' Funding and Supervision

Requirement
  •  Sustainable Consumption
  • Circular Economy
  • Net-Zeo Policy Development
  • Innovation for Sustainable Development

Being trained in at least one of the following disciplines:

 

  • Public policy or Environmental Policy
  • Environrmental studies, environmental engineering
  • Other fields related to sustainability

PhD Package

 

The University provides a full scholarship of HK$ 216,360 per year (~US$ 27,750/ year) for a maximum period of four years.
