The "One Hour for Young Talents" Winter 2024 Workshop, jointly organized by the China Public Administration Review (C-PAR), the Division of Public Policy (PPOL) and the Institute for Public Policy (IPP) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), was successfully held on December 20-21, 2024 On the HKUST Clear Water Bay campus. 

The "One Hour for Yong Talents" Workshop, organized by the esteemed C-PAR, the journal based at the School of Public Policy and Management, Tsinghua University, is a prominent series within the Chinese public policy research community. It provides young scholars with a distinguished platform for deep academic exchange, where research students are given a one-hour in-depth discussion session for each selected paper to interact with a senior scholar nominated by them. 


The Winter 2024 Workshop commenced with welcome remarks delivered by Prof SHARIF Naubahar, Head of PPOL at HKUST, and Prof HE Alex Jingwei, Acting Director of IPP at HKUST. Prof MEI Ciqi, Associate and Managing Editor of C-PAR and Associate Professor of the School of Public Policy and Management at Tsinghua University, gave opening remarks, followed by immersive discussion sessions for selected papers.

Out of over 150 submitted papers, eight papers from Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, HKUST, HKUST (GZ), and several other leading universities were selected for the workshop. The expert discussants included senior scholars from Tsinghua University, the Hong Kong University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, HKUST, HKUST(GZ), and University of Macau.


Miss RAN Chunyan, a PhD student from PPOL, presented a paper titled "Exploring Varieties of Bureaucratic Formalism under the Pressure of Political Re-centralization: A Comparative Case Study in China" and had an in-depth discussion of the paper with Prof MEI Ciqi, the expert discussant.


The workshop offered a valuable opportunity for research students to present their research and exchange ideas with senior scholars and participants from renowned universities nationwide. PPOL and IPP are proud to co-host the workshop with C-PAR and will continue to foster and nurture the new generation of scholars.
